Saint Michael School Monday Memo August 31, 2015   Parish Announcements  Parish Announcements Twitter

Letter From the Principal

Dear Families,

This week has been incredibly exciting for me as I have experienced my first days as principal of St. Michael School.  I am grateful to be here surrounded by brilliant, loving, caring teachers, instructional assistants, and staff.  I want to share my appreciation to Mrs. Krill for her constant love, support, encouragement, and professionalism as she has helped me learn about St. Michael.  Her love and devotion to this community are unsurpassed, and I am grateful for her and the many gifts she brings.

As we begin this school year I want to say thank you to all of the families who took the time to meet with me over the summer and to our wonderful School Advisory Board.  The ideas and suggestions shared have been instrumental in decisions made.  Our leadership team here at St. Michael wants input.  We know this is how we will learn and grow.  Never hesitate to call on one of us for any reason. We are all here to serve.

I have a few important items that I would like you to keep in mind.  Please, please, please make sure your child and all children in your car are buckled in at all times when on campus.  We had two young children hanging out of a car window that came very close to flying out, while another was sitting on top of the sunroof as the car was going over the huge speed bumps.  I would be devastated if something happened to one of our children.  Please make sure they are safely buckled in.  You never know what another driver is going to do.

Thanks to all of you who have enough faith in us to allow your child/children to walk home.  The turn-out has been great with more than 80 students each day.   I feel certain that we will qualify for a crossing guard after Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Louisville Metro pays for this service.  Please let us know if you want your child to be a walker.

Almost every day I am asked to give suggestions, advice, and ideas on how to help kids.  I would never claim to be a parenting expert by any means.  My husband and I have five children from age thirty to thirteen.  Believe me, none of it is smooth sailing!   I fall back, mostly, on past experiences, but use faith and constant prayer as my guide.  I enjoy getting advice from friends, parents, and grandparents. I love sharing my experiences as well. I know God put me here for a reason and I hope that while you are reading my Friday letters, something might ring true for you. Regardless, we all have unprecedented expectations and pressures brought on by jobs, families, activities and raising children. The St. Michael Community is here for each of you.  Just ask!

I will close out this week with one of my favorite verses from Psalm 62:1-2

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

Thank you for allowing me to serve your family. I am truly blessed!

We thank you to your attention to help make K-8 arrival and dismissal run quickly and smoothly.

• Officially morning carpool begins at 7:20 a.m.  As a courtesy, we are opening the cafeteria at 7:05.  Students should enter through the cafeteria door.  Safety patrols arrive at 7:20.  At this time, please pull all the way around the circle.
• Afternoon carpool: Walkers are dismissed at 2:35 p.m.  An adult walks them to the cross walk at Taylorsville Rd. where a crossing guard will direct traffic.
• Please be parked for Carpool 1 by 2:35.
• Please do not arrive before 2:50 for Carpool 2.  When families arrive early, this causes traffic to back up onto the main roads.
