Letter From the Principal

Dear Families,

I hope you had a great week.  I am certainly enjoying this warm, beautiful weather.

Please note your child's individual Terra Nova score reports will be coming home today (grades 3-7).  These reports will show how your child scored in each subject area tested as well as the range of mastery.  Additionally, you will see your child's norm-referenced scores, which shows how your child scored compared to other students in his/her grade level who took the test nationally.  If you would like a more detailed explanation of these scores, please contact Mrs. Barr or Mrs. Goss.  They are available most days from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30  p.m.

I do plan to offer an information session for parents to discuss results of school Terra Nova performance later this year.

We would like to welcome Ms. Liz Miller to our staff as school secretary.  She has just moved to Louisville from Idaho with her fiancee, who is a new assistant coach for the University of Louisville football team.  She has a degree in Early Childhood Development and Family Relations from University of Idaho.  She is Catholic and excited to work with your children.

Please be advised that Mrs. Ginny Marean is no longer an employee of St. Michael School.  If you need assistance, please contact the school office, and we will be happy to assist you.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. -Colossians 3:15a

Have a wonderful week!

Stacy Tackett

Farm to Table: SHINE class
Sixth grade SHINE students are learning just where our food comes from in a series of "Farm to Table" activities. Over the course of three weeks, students are learning about where our "fresh produce" comes from-should plums from Chile or tomatoes from Mexico be considered "fresh"?
We have researched the available farmland for the world's people, available farmland and products in Kentucky, and planted tomatoes and lettuce. Armed with this knowledge, we took a field trip to Blackacre Nature Preserve, hoed ground in the community garden for children to plant vegetable crops, and mulched dry beds for them to kneel on while they are planting.
Our SHINE experience culminates with students completing farming projects, and creating a true "Farm to Table" dining experience using local ingredients.
The Farm to Table SHINE class is led by Mrs. Priel and Mrs. Seewer.  SHINE students are selected from five regional schools based on 95th percentile or above on Terra Nova in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.   They have the opportunity to participate in enrichment classes three times per semester.
