Letter From the Principal
Dear Families,
I looked at the calendar this morning and couldn't believe it was already May, and we are right in the midst of one of my favorite times of the year, Derby week.  But more important than Derby week, we are winding down the school year. This is important because it is the end of the first school year in 19 years where St. Michael School has had a different principal.  As I think about how this one single change alone has impacted the entire St. Michael Community, my prayer is that every family find something positive about this school year. If you have questions or concerns about next year, please come and see me and know I will listen and work hard to meet the needs of every student that attends St. Michael School.
This time last week I was in Chicago with our 8th graders and many of their parents. I knew our students were good kids but I did not expect the hotel to call me upon our return and tell me that they were the best group of kids they had ever had.  What a blessing!  I am so incredibly proud of these 8th graders, their accomplishments, and their commitment to being young men and women of character and integrity. Graduation is May 12th and prior to graduation I will be doing 8th grade exit interviews and surveys.  This data will be used to assist us in many ways and to continue to do what is working and also to improve upon areas of concern. The School Advisory Board will review the data and summarize it for our "Splinters" which are published monthly.
The last day of school for 8th graders is May 12th.  The last day of school for the rest of us K-7 is Wednesday, May 25th with a noon dismissal. Prior to the end of school, we will post our Summer Reading and Math Requirements for each grade level. Families will also receive a copy of the grade level expectations.  The purpose for this is twofold. This is our way of communicating what skills your child should have prior to entering the next grade level, and it can be used as a resource for tutors, parents and students to make sure they are staying on top of the skills during the long summer break.
Please join us for our all school mass and awards, immediately following mass, on Tuesday, May 24th
The parents who depend on Scripture for solutions to the stresses of living have a distinct advantage over the family with no faith. (Dr. James Dobson, Parenting Isn't for Cowards)

Happy Derby!
